Hello Faisal. You are correct, the speaker grills do not come out. You need to remove the entire rear deck lid (plastic cover) to access all the rear speakers and center seatbelt. There are no screws or bolts to remove. Basically all you have to do is pull it off (up and out) while trying to be careful at the same time.

I done this & replaced the factory with Alpine SPR 17 C. They didnt have that nice drop in fit. I had to bring them up higher ( due to the spring bars)with some collars, then trim down the inside of the removed plastic deck. They work great. Whats up with Crutchfield? they wouldnt help me. Only if I bought from them!! They just lost a steady customer

Instead of making your own custom speaker ring adapters, did you know they already make them for Honda Civics? Crutchfield only includes a universal spacer if you order speakers from them and the instructions for the universal bracket calls for drilling holes. Also, it's a thin spacer so a lot of speakers might not be able to clear the depth if used in doors. I always want to avoid drilling holes when all possible. Here are two brands of Honda Speaker adapters that will fit Civics with no drilling:

o American International HSB518 (they say for 2003 and up Accords, but they will also fit Civics)

o Scosche SAHC634

The above models are for 6.5 inch speakers. Just beware that some 6.5 inch speakers might require a large diameter mounting hole.

I think these spacer adapters are about 3/4 inch thick so a lot of speaker baskets should be able to clear the unconventional hole on the Civic so you can avoid doing any cutting as well.

I know my Polk DB650 pair have a relatively small mounting hole required so they will drop right into any of the above-mentioned spacer adapters and also they easily clear the Civic unconventional speaker hole so no modification on the factory hole is necessary. I use Polk DB6500 on the doors and and DB650 on the rears. They easily fit even with the slim Crutchfield universal spacers. I have a 2006 Honda Civic LX. I am still using the stock stereo so without aftermarkets amps, the sound would be crappy with the stock deck trying powering them.

To confirm, on my 08 Si Sedan, I could access the rear speakers simply by sliding a small screwdriver and prying off the grilles. I'm so glad I don't have to remove the whole back area part.

i have the same kind of speakers but in 180 watts on my ex sedan but the bass and sound is lower then the OEM. Could it be that i need a sub to better my speakers or is there another way, because the sound is not as loud and the bass as well.

I just finished installing new 6.5" speakers in both the door and rear shelf. I used the Scosche SAHC634 adapters and they worked very well. Cost was $8.00 a pair. They use the clip and screw attachment just like the OEM speakers. I used some 3/8" thick by 1/2 neoprene foam tape between the speaker and the bracket, and used #8 x 5/8 screws (any longer and they'll protrude). After installing the speaker and bracket together, the installation is just to remove the old and pop in the new. I also used the Metra speaker harness (I think I paid ~$2 a pair delivered) that eliminated any cutting of the factory speaker harness should there be any reason to switch back (sale?). Overall this was a very painless upgrade.

I am now tackling the front tweeters. These have a different speaker terminal and won't work with the Metra speaker harness though.

Has anyone changed out the front tweeters yet? Any DIY info?

Excellent tutorial man! I have very similar Pioneer 6.5's and wanted to get some decent highs out of the rear deck, but after struggling with Crutchfield they sent me brackets that were supposed to fit and didn't even come close, so I got fed up and sent the brackets back then gutted the stock speakers for their ring brackets and the new 6.5's went in easily. The highs a mids sound great off the rear, but now the highs in the dash can't compete so I'm thinking of leaving the mids in the doors cuz they seem to be good and upgrading to set of tweeters, I opened a damn can of worms for sure with this car. haha

I also installed a MTX 4508 8" Sub cuz the stock one bottomed out way too easily at high volume, but the new one's hitting just fine! I have a 200 watt self amplified 10" SAS bass tube but I placed it in the trunk and it takes up far too much space, I need my damn trunk space so the 8" will have to do for now. I found Crutchfield supplies a nice custom trunk box with a 10" sub included for the Civic Si that fits in the back right corner but I'm not about to pay $700 bucks for damn thing.

(I must be going blind, where's the edit button?)

Anyway, does anyone know what the plastic little empty dish is for between the sub and the 6.5 in this pic?

Hey man I did the same thing thanks for the DIY! with alpine spr-17C

Recomendations
1. Wire it first haha duhhh I had to take it back out
2. I did not cut the lip that sticks upwards and my speakers are too high and they push out the grillss so cut it.

Yeah I eventually found that out after tracking down the damn piece of plastic that was vibrating like hell after I installed the MTX 4508 sub, it's just a guard for the roller of the seatbelt assembly that hangs down into the trunk.

i was attempting this install and put in the new speakers to test them out, and there was no noticebale difference wiht the aftermarket pioneer 3 ways and the OEM stocks. so i just decided to take them out. the factory head unity is garbage, and its a waist of money in my opinion unless u plan on adding an amp or change the HU
