How to upgrade 2007 Civic Sedan EX

As you all may know, the 07 sedan EX comes w/a lousy stock stereo. I want to upgrade it but am confused w/ the back speakers. They are 6.5 in size (just like the coupe), but for some reason crutchfield shows that 6.5 speakers will not fit. 5.25's are shown to fit. This did not make any sense, so i called to see why. They said that it has to do with how non-stock 6.5 speakers will not mount properly. I've checked this forum for hours to try to find more info on sedans to no avail. Is there anyone here who has successfully installed 6.5 inch speakers in the rear?

So crutchfield told you only 5.25 speakers would fit?
When I called crutchfield about upgrading my lx sedan, they said 6.5's for all would be fine. So, is wonder if there is a difference between ex and lx rear speakers? Crutchfield online mentions clearance issues, but I looked in the trunk, and I have NO clearance issues. Look in your EX trunk, see if you have two little metal rods from left to right, just below the rear speakers.
If so, maybe that is why they want you to use smaller speakers.
BTW, what brand are you looking at? I am thinking either infinity or polk audio...
Anyone else have an opinion on this?

They told me that 6.5's would not fit in mine either. But I just replaced mine yesterday, 6.5's fit fine, I just had to drill new wholes for mounting. Mine are Infinity if that helps.

The fronts are what you should be really concerned with. The rears are only for fill. Many good car audio systems do not even have rear speakers. 5.25 are cheaper and will be fine in the back and easier to install. Even though screwing new holes is easy enough.

Thanks for the info. I want to put in MB Quart QSD 216 components for the front and tweeters. MB Quarts QSC 164 for the rears. Run them through a Kicker ZX650.4 (120W x 4), but this setup will cost me $850.
I might settle for Infinity Kappa 60.7cs components for the front, Kappa 63.7i (3-ways) for the back, all powered by a Kenwood KAC-8402 (60W x 4). This will cost almost half: $450. I really, really want the MB Quart setup though. BTY, what 4-channel amps do you guys think are the best sounding?

Crutchfield told me that barely any speakers will fit because the magnet is too deep. I have a coupe, dunno how different the back is on them and the sedan's.

One set you could try through crutchfield or otherwise IMO would be the infinity reference 6022si..not only do they have a very shallow mounting depth, but they also have only a 2ohm load (almost all AM speakers are 4ohm, even though many Factory stereos stick with 2ohm), meaning they SHOULD be a great fit if you don't want to do too much aftermarket tearing apart for amps, head units, etc. I'm just looking to upgrade the factory clarity, and these look like the best choice even if it doesnt explicitly say they will fit in the rear of a coupe or a sedan---because it would technically draw the most power out of the stock amp without any issues...any one have any thoughts on this? BTW, you could always use the forum here that describes how to fit most 6.5's in the stock speaker fittings (although it looks like you'd have to rip up the factory speaker, but for only a hundred bucks for better speakers, no real need to salvage the factory equipment...) Again, I havent made a purchase yet so I've yet to check out how these work, so any thoughts on this would be appreciated...anyone got em?

Unfortunately it appears that they don't make harnesses for Hondas. I've been looking for a solution as well (in anticipation of an eventual HU replacement) and have been unable to find anything.

I have 6.25 inch polk in the front and 5.25 in the back.

The back mounts and magnets get in the way with the 6.25 inch ones.

I've successfully installed a set 6.5" Pioneer coaxial speakers at the rear without any problems. The trick is to elevate the speaker just a little bit (about half an inch) during mounting. You can use an mdf board for this purpose. In my DIY, since I wont be using the grills that came with the pioneer speakers, I used the frame that holds the grill as a spacer instead. This way, I didn't have to destroy the stock speakers just to use its frame for mounting my replacement speakers. I also didn't have to drill additional holes as the 3 holes that holds the stock speakers in place falls exactly aligned to the existing holes on the replacement speaker.

BTW, i have a 2007 Civic 4-door sedan.

Sony Xplodes are good speakers, my bro installed them on his car and it sounded as if he has a sys in it wiht just the 2 rear speakers, they were 6.5in i believe too

something quick.... i blew my stock EX sub. so i went and got a JL 8WO. the problem was that there were two metal rods below the sub (as your know, after market sub are usually longer in depth then the stocks). to fix that problem, my JL came with a rubber spacer, i just put the spacer between the sub and the plastic mounting (Honda factory). I was scared that my JL might hit my rear deck, so i removed a plastic peice off the rear deck. its a thin plastic oval shape, 5 or 6 little screws. Works fien now!

i just got my '08 civic ex sedan and i am in love, moving up from a 2005 civic lx-se sedan.

does anyone know the level of difficulty involved with replacing the stock tweeters in the dash? any help would be appreciated.


also, is going with 6.5" (infinity kappa) speakers for the front doors and 5.25" (infinity kappa) for the rear deck a good way to go?
