GOOD question! I was thinking the same thing myself, but I want a whole new system still complete with subs =). I personally don't think they would void your radio warranty part because people install aftermarket radios all the time! If they did then they are just really jerks..

my friend has that setup. she has an alpine hu with lcd (old stereo not wit dvd built-in) and a kenwood dvd player below it. so it fills that whole double-din slot. im sure you can wire it that way just follow the directions on your manual shouldnt be hard. why would you want to do that though when you can buy all-in-one nowadays?

re : >does anyone know if the factory aux unit is still useable after you put the aftermarket radio in?
sure.. you just need to solder some custom wires together.. it's not a big job. there are a few how-to's on the board.. search "aux input". I have this in my car as well. My Alpine deck's rear aux-in connector is routed down to the stock honda input. j |

Hi, From the post above, how did you blow up your fuse? Is it because the scosche wiring harness screw up? I ordered the whole dash kit for my civic 08. It came with HA10B Wiring Harness and HAAB Antenna Adapter. I don't want to risk with the wiring harness if it's gonna blow up the fuse. Thanks. Cam On Nhieu. |

Tapping into the factory amp like that is going to damage your speakers and even burn out the factory amp. I did mine by using the RCA cables and that integrates with the factory amp. You will be able to use all speakers without a problem. Do be sure to tap PIN# 15 on the bigger factor harness to the remote wire of your aftermarket radio. If you don't do that you will get NO sound whatsoever because I had that issue. It's all a matter of trial and error =) |

Hey guys, I'm back to post round 3 for the system, after I figure out how the hell i'm going to make the rear left speaker fit. (It's being blocked by the trunk bar...)
Right now i have all 4 factory speakers replaced, however the back ones are kinda just in there.... so to speak. and being held down with duct tape cuz I got lazy. and didn't want to drill anything. Crutchfield didn't send me a braket, just a spacer, so i need to set up some kind of mounting assembly and raise it up a little for it to work. Pics coming this weekend hopefully. |

You need a "baffle", that the car installer guys use.. Just simply a ring of some thickness of MDF which mounts above and to the deck (Self-tapping sheet metal screws to deck), then the speaker mounts to the baffle (wood screws I guess). It will float your speaker above the deck to eleviate some mounting depth. Some guys also seal around the basket baffle and deck with non-hardening modeling clay or other to air-seal it.
Trick is to not make it so thick the speaker will be too close to the grill above it. Guys make them with a router and a circle jig (parts express has those), or just get the mounting hole diameter from the speaker and cut it out with a jig-saw for something not so pretty but functional. |

AWESOME!!! If you get tired of duct tape though, or once it dries out with the sun, you should try using lasagna pasta reinforced with string to ensure a good bond. Once it dries out, it forms a rock-solid seal that is second to none! Failing THAT, MDF rings (spacers) should be the next option you try. |

if it's only when you put on your lights, then I'd think the issue has nothing to do with the speaker, but is a grounding problem at the deck side of things, or a deck has been connected without the appropriate filter/choke (they often come with one on the ignition line of the radio) Also, ensure that no speaker wires are touching the car's chassis at all.

Great post, it helped a lot, I just installed my JVC KD-AVX11. Connected the blue wire on the antenna adapter to the remote antenna wire coming out of the back of the HU - Works great. I used the Metra dash kit and harness, but it would have been nicer to use Honda parts for a better fit tho, but it was too much trouble gettin' them up here.
