I mentioned both to him. This was almost a month ago so I am trying to recall the conversation but I do remember him implying that the issue wasn't with the Si but rather with the R18. I believe he said that they addressed the problem and re-designed the unit. He didn't give me an exact date though.

Here is some more hearsay.....

15 HP gained with only Injen CAI!!!!!!!!!!

Each dyno gives different results depending on temp and machine, as well as the car used. One person's subjective perception isn't enough--not to mention dynos on two completely different cars. Heck, for my car they said it gave 12hp peak for this SRI. But I'm skeptical of that, and not even sure I want to keep it on--and you don't see me bragging how it's better than the AEM.

The person above claims a 15--Injen awhile back posted a 11hp gain. Fujita claims almost 9hp gain. The numbers fluctuate quite a bit depending on conditions.

Dyno comparison from the same car, of both the AEM and Injen is the best way to figure out which one is better. Until then they're still just speculation.

Cutting is done as a precautionary measure to prevent wear on the CAI piping. When it's continually rubbing against the guard for thousands of miles, it's possible that the piping will wear down. It's not required, but you're likely better off doing so.

So if I wrapped that part with header wrap it would be OK....I really would rather not cut the inner fender.

alright not to thread jack or anything...but my friend has a injen sri...for his dc5...and i was looking at my 07 si bay...and the maf sensor is on the intake box...and with the dc5...its on his throttle body...can i still use his injen sri with the maf sensor off...if i did leave it off..i would think it would throw codes or something and mess with the computer...thanks.

not to but you did.

anyways, I don't think you'd want to use that DC5 intake. w/o the maf sensor I can almost guarantee a CEL.

Another thing, my buddy thinks I can install a CAI by just removing the inner fender / wheel well lining. What do you guys think of this?

What about the K&N typhoon filter? Their site has relatively high gains and K&N does make nice filters.. also is it a Short Ram, or CAI?
One thing the K&N does have is the heat shield

I got the Fujita Ram Air for my 06 Si. It was easy to install (having never installed anything before), and it sounds great when you mash on the gas. It sounds even better when the V-TECH kicks in. A very "throaty" sound. You'll like it.

Just FYI everyone, I ordered the Injen CAI today. Got it for $219 shipped! I'll keep you posted as far as my install and stuff like that. Maybe some vids too.

I just installed the Injen CAI in my LX and I love it, BTW there is no need to remove the bumper for the install, just the wheel and fender well plastic. Much easier than the whole damn bumper removal IMO. Took about 4 hrs total (even the 20 min of idle after install and many smoke breaks lol). Good choice on the injen though you will like it
