DIY superbrightleds.com festoon bulb fix

had a lot of requests for this so here it is. this is for the people with problems with the LED festoon map/dome lights that cut out or just stop working. the pics arent that great but they should do just fine

first off is the cap untouched.

now get a small flathead screwdriver and start at the base of the metal piece and pry up. it may take alittle force to break the glue and it may bend the metal alittle bit, but if the metal bends try another part. once you get it loose work your way around it til you get the metal cap all they way off.

once the cap is off the wire (pictured below) is in a little slot, and probably covered in glue so scrape the glue off and move the wire to the side
(right when cap is removed and wire is in original place)

(after wire is moved over)

then place the cap back on it

and push it all the way down and you are done with that side.

and since you cant tell which side of the bulb is messed up, do it to both sides.

Wow, nice DIY tutorial. But, man, my head's hurting after these pictures. Yeah, you can kind of make it out..but it's taking a lot of brain power to convert these images. Lol. Good job though man.

of course. the more contact the better. but its really not needed, and its a really easy fix.

i can take better pics now if needed. but those should do.

thos pisc are fine, and like i said, no problems yet, and i do computer work so soldering is not a problem for me, esp. if it means less chance of failure lol

This DIY was very helpful last week when my bulb stopped working. It seems like the soft plastic material (epoxy?) melts over the wire, causing the wire to not connect anymore with the cap.

your welcome guys :)

manny, try heating it up alittle bit with a hair dryer. the epoxy in there is a hard epoxy, so you have to break bond before it will lift up, the metal piece bent on part of mine when trying but no biggie just move on to another spot. you might can try using an old knife too. it would get more of the metal at a time.

its going good i think, havnt been able to check it yet, but ill see soon enough.

no it wont hurt if its all bent up, all that metal is, is just to make the contact point bigger to clip into the contacts on the map light.
