Looking at the picture in the first post I would assume the car was previously turbocharged, right? I'm only going on the Garrett logo on the hood for this. If so, what was the catalyst for removing the turbo setup and switching to a hardcore (if you're aiming at 300 hp, I'd say hardcore is fair) NA build? Just to see if you could? Parts development?

awwww, tuchee (however you spell that )
well the turbo kit never got completely developed. After working wit it for a while, we couldnt find a good way to make a "kit" per say (something resalable). In addition, the engine compartment is so cramped that its really not to feasible considering the ECU sits right in the engine bay. All of the heat that would be generated would be insane. And i dont think you guys would like to extend your ECU hardness and put it in side. Also the car is for track racing, and we've already been out on 100 degree days multiple times, and in various elevations, just to many variables with turbo.

In anycase, NA is the way, use vtec the way it was meant to be used .

Lets leave the turbo subject at that. If you want to pm me though, feel free, i'll try to explain the ways i tried to get a turbo in this car and failed (or didnt feel comfortable)

Also, just for kicks, i figured i post a pic that doesnt really do the car justice since its going 130mph but its cool to see that it does race. I wont lie, we didnt attach the front splitter right, so you'll notice its gone (that was a frightening sound, but o well ).

Latest Update:

It looks like we'll be using either a TSX throttle body or a 66mm BDL throttle body, which ever one we can obtain for cheaper. The more air the more power we can make potentially.

Our only hold up right now with the bottom end build is which rods we'll use. We're looking at various brand, availability, and consumer price point. I'll report back next monday with pictures of parts and the bottom end build plan.

Haha, sorry guys, i thought we would have the rods by now, but eagle has been giving me the run around. As soon as I get rods, I'll be ready to get this going again. For the most part our internal will be from supertech performance.

Last week we did install the Exedy Race Clutch and Lightweight Flywheel.
(on a side note, we will be choosing the body color of the car this weekend, so if you have a good recommendation, feel free to email sales@mjhsound.com).

Indeed. Soon to be my color... Or at least, JB says so. I think NBP, but she likes the gray.

you guys might want to reconsider the eagle rods. for a n/a build you are better off with maxi lie rods from crower or manley. its pointless to run the heaviest aftermarket rod on the market for a all motor build

I'm curious as well. since your using a TSX throttle body, is it a direct bolton and your still using dbw, or is it a throttle cable now?

Also like to know at what angle are you having the valves done at. And what valves have you choosen, I'd also like to suggest using a Crower brand or Manley, We've used many Eagle brand rods in our turbo builds but never with a N/A setup. Have you decided what cams you'll be using, or duration spec! You said something about a custom header, will that be a strickly "race" header or maybe a shorty street header?

Hey, im glad to see you guys have patience and great questions.
good news! Eagle rods got sent over night so they should arrive today.
The head should return from the machine shop shortly, and all the other parts
are in place. What i plan to do is layout all the parts and take a picture so you can see what we're working with.

HEADER: I believe the header will be a "race header", but i'll ask Hy-tech and see what their plan was. Usually they make pretty hard core race headers that produce ridiculous power gains.

Valves: Im not sure what angle the valve seats with done at, I will find out when it gets back though and report to the thread.

TSX: The throttle body is DBW=drive by wire, and the car will remian that way. Im trying to do an engine build that everyone can benifit from knowledge wise, the car needs to remain DBW for this to be successful in my eyes.

Color: haha, well we got creative. Whether its a good thing or bad thing, at least from the front 3/4 view it will look insane. The side view is kinda questionable in concept but o well, this car is all about trying new things. We went with a two tone paint job. You wont see that until SEMA though

if its a direct bolt on, thats freakin awesome. I can't wait to hear how it all turns out.

The 2006! Tsx thorttle body is direct bolt on and it 64mm i believe (or 66mm cant recall right now). Now i accidently got the 04 tsx, and its the same thing as the Si, there goes $175 . Anyone want it?

Also, im sad to say, but specs on different aspects of the build will be limited. While we are developing parts with Hy-tech and other constituents, most of the information will remain confidential it seems. So info like the angle the valve seats are cut at ,and other information on the head work can not be displayed. I will post where you can obtain the new engine head from in a contact list shortly.

I have posted a quick pic of the rods that will be used, and a picture of a supertech piston after we smoothed over any sharp edges on the top of the piston (see side profile). It looks like tuesday next week we'll start really putting this engine back together, and hopefully have it in the car friday.
