Hesistation on R18 models??

since the day i bought my civic the car has this "bog" as soon
as i hit the pedal. it litterly feels like it gasps for air so i went
and installed a CAI thinkin this may be some of the cause. the
stock airbox made me think this when i saw how it was routed....

from TB it elbowed into the airbox where the filter sits, then from
there it shot down another pipe into the lower section of the front
bumper and into a resonator box then right back up into the engine
bay where it sucked hot air right next to the battery....Lame!

but this wasnt the fix but did increase my HP and flows better now.

anyone?
is this the same thing thats goin on with Si's????

Si's don't experience this bog. Like I said before, I believe it's the gearing in the base models.

I've got the lag in my auto, but I figured it was just a normal thing that autos had. My Grand Am and Monte Carlo both lagged. My manual '94 Civic didn't have the problem.

It's probably drive by wire then??

hmmm....yea maybe the dbw but i hope honda gets a grip
with this and comes up with a recall for these models.
maybe a free reflash to the ecu to correct it.

cuz like i said, its a gasp of air when you first hit the accelerator
like it chokes for that innitial moment. But once it passes that stage
it then takes off into the RPM range.....

odd?

i dont know if it matters but....

my civic is a DX-G for which i called Honda direct and documented this
problem so if it does come up mine is on a list to get fixed first.

What you speak of is the DBW (drive by wire) lag.

Unlike the Civics of days past, we have fanciful electronically controlled throttle bodies that improve combustion efficiency but at the expense of the precision throttle response.

This is one of the first things I noticed about my R18 Civic and compared to my Nissan 350z, pissed me off.

Holy crap, you went from a 350Z to a R18 Civic? What forced that idea?

I have a 60 mile commute. I avoided the Si for that reason.

Back on topic: try this thread for more information on the reflash for solve the DBW lag. (For Si's though.)

mine lags also, it bogs like there isnt enough power to move the car, then the car just kinda bursts forwards, it only happens in 1st gear for me, and usually when starting between 1000-1500rpm

Mine has a bog when pulling away from a light. I just wrote it off to no torque. My Ranger does the same thing and it has a throttle cable. Both are 5 MT's

Could be DBW, Vtec kicking in, letting out the clutch too soon... is this your first import?? they really dont pull untill you get into higher rpm's...

ps. some shitt y cold air intakes will cause this problem, do you have a cel on by any chance?
